Stewart Records Ten Assists in Win

After the seventh tie of the game, the Mustangs finally broke away from the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds with 3:32 left in the first half. WNMU went on a 9-3 run to finish out the half and continued their shooting success in the second. The Mustangs held a double figure lead in the final 12 minutes of play to get their second victory of the season, 87-69.

Overall, the team shot 54 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from the arc, well above the Greyhounds 43.5 and 26.7 percent. WNMU also outshined Eastern at the free throw line. The Greyhounds shot a dismal 31.3 percent, hitting 5 of 16. The Mustangs sank 26 of 35 attempts for 74.3 percent.

Many of those free points came from junior Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ/Santa Rita High School) (Tucson, AZ). In his 40 minutes of play, Stewart went to the line 16 times and hit ten of them. He finished with 16 points and a spectacular ten assists, a career high for Stewart.

DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ/Glendale High School) (Phoenix, AZ) led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 80 percent from the floor. Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI/St. Phillip Catholic Central High School) (Battle Creek, MI) chipped in with another 14 points in his 18 minutes of play.
